My Business Travels – Travel I Must

Chong Chee Wah, Founder & CEO of TreeBox Solutions

Mr. Chong Chee Wah
Founder & CEO

Dear Readers,

I keep a digital note on my smartphone that tracks my travelling since 2013. That was the year when I started serious business travelling. It has become a ritual for me to update the note whenever I was on a business trip. The count shows 44 trips since 2013. I am amazed myself at the number of trips but also getting uncomfortable at the rate of my travels – from 7 trips in 2013 to 9 in 2014 and then 15 in 2015. Now just after the half way mark in 2016, I have done 13 trips and with more to come in near future.

Art and Science of Hiring – Part 1

Chong Chee Wah, Founder & CEO of TreeBox Solutions

Mr. Chong Chee Wah
Founder & CEO

Dear Readers,

“Hiring” is one of the most important tasks of an entrepreneur in a startup.  A wrong hire could have a much more significant impact on a startup as compared to a large MNC. Most entrepreneurs know that other than conceptualising an idea, the next most important thing is about execution. Well-executed plans will create a higher probability of success for startups. And in order to execute well, we need a strong team and everything boils down to hiring and retaining the best talents that we can find and afford. In this part 1 of the blog, I will talk about the first part – hiring.

The Movie – The Martian

Mr. Chong Chee Wah
Founder & CEO

Dear Readers,

This month, I was deeply honoured to receive the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award. As I reflected on my 7 years of entrepreneurship journey, the four flavours set in – sweet, sour, bitter and spicy. Imagine experiencing maximum emotions and flavours exploding all at the same time and also mental experiential learning… finally coupled with high chance of fatality….. To me, this is entrepreneurship.

In my acceptance speech, I spoke about the Movie – The Martian where Matt Damon played the role of NASA astronaut Mark Watney who got stranded on Mars.

Learn to Wait

Mr. Chong Chee Wah
Founder & CEO

Dear Readers,

This month, I started to read a book “What they don’t teach you at Harvard Business School” by Mark H. McCormack.  While I am still in the midst of enjoying a good read, I can’t help but notice a consistent advice that the book has brought out – “Learn to Wait”.

I quote: “It is still amazing to me how the simple passing of time can totally alter a situation, solve problems, render other problems meaningless, cool down confrontations and add a whole new perspective.”

We have survived and we are Five!

Mr. Chong Chee Wah
Founder & CEO

Dear Readers,

5th Jan 2016 marked an important milestone for our company. We are officially 5 years old ! Happy Birthday, TreeBox !

Time really flies. I have been in this “roller-coaster” ride for more than 5 years. Comparing back when we started on 5th Jan 2011, I can still remember the decision where the 5 founders formed the company and decided to give “it a shot”. We have nothing back then, except ideas. We have no money, no office, no staff. Just ideas and armed with a belly of fire that we can try “a shot”. Not knowing what was ahead of us, we formed the company and started the bootstrap process.
